How to find the BPM and key of a song (free, online)
Get the tempo and musical key of any track in seconds — what the numbers mean and how to use them for DJ mixes, beats and release forms.
Distributors, DJ software and producers all ask the same two questions about a track: what is the BPM and what is the key? If you do not know them, you can find both in a few seconds without installing anything.
Find BPM and key in three steps
- Open the free BPM and key finder.
- Add the song (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC). It is analysed by your browser and never uploaded.
- Read the tempo and the key. If the tempo looks half or double, the alternative is shown next to it — tap along with the beat to confirm.
What the numbers mean
- BPM (beats per minute) is the tempo. Hip-hop usually sits around 80–100, pop around 100–130, house around 120–128, drum and bass around 170.
- Key is the note and scale the song is built on, for example A minor or C major. Songs in the same or related keys sound good next to each other.
What to use them for
- DJ sets and mixes — match tempos and pick tracks in compatible keys for smooth transitions.
- Making songs — choose beats and samples in the same key as your vocal.
- Release forms — many distributors, playlists and sync libraries ask for BPM and key.
- Release pages — show BPM and key on your HyperFollow page for producers and DJs.
Next step: a video in the same tempo
PulSound’s video studio reacts to the beat of your track automatically, so the video always moves in the right tempo. Add the song and export a video for YouTube, Shorts, TikTok or Reels in a couple of minutes.
