How to resize a video for Reels, TikTok and YouTube (9:16, 1:1, 16:9)
Change a horizontal video to vertical 9:16 without black bars, or make all three formats at once — free, in your browser.
A music video shot in 16:9 looks tiny on TikTok, and a vertical clip gets black bars on YouTube. Every network wants its own shape. Here is how to change the format of any video in a minute, for free, without uploading it.
Which format goes where
| Format | Where |
|---|---|
| 9:16 (vertical) | TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Stories |
| 1:1 (square) | Instagram and Facebook feed |
| 16:9 (horizontal) | YouTube, websites, TV |
Resize a video in four steps
- Open the free Video resize & trim tool and add your video (up to 10 minutes).
- Set the start and end if you only need part of it.
- Choose the format and how the picture fits:
- Fill (crop edges) — fills the frame, the sides are cut off. Best when the subject is in the centre.
- Fit, blurred background — the whole picture stays, and the empty space is filled with a blurred copy. Looks much better than black bars.
- Fit, black bars — the classic letterbox.
- Press Download. You get an MP4 ready to post.
All networks at once
Choose ★ All three: 9:16 + 1:1 + 16:9 and the tool makes every version of the same video in one go.
