FAQ

Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. The studio works fully without one. An account adds release pages for your tracks and, on a paid plan, removes the watermark and unlocks higher resolutions and extra templates.

Is it really free?

The free plan is genuinely free and not time-limited. It exports up to the resolution shown on the pricing page, includes the free templates, and adds a small PulSound watermark.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in the browser. There is nothing to download and no plugin.

Which browsers work?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Safari records MP4 directly; the others record WebM and convert it. Older browsers may not be able to record video at all.

Does it work on a phone?

The interface does. Exporting on a phone is unreliable — mobile browsers throttle background work and long recordings often fail. Use a computer for exports.

Your files and privacy

Is my music uploaded to your servers?

No. Your audio is read and analysed by your own browser. Nothing about it reaches us. An unreleased track is as private here as it is on your hard drive.

So why can this be free?

Because we are not paying to store your files or to render your video — your own computer does the work. That is the whole economic trick behind the free plan.

What happens to tracks I upload to a release page?

Those are different: creating a release page does store the file on our servers, because the page has to play it to visitors. You can delete a release at any time, and the file goes with it.

Do you claim any rights to my music?

None. Your music stays yours, and so does every video you export.

Exporting

Why does the export take as long as the song?

The video is recorded as the audio plays, in real time. There is no server queue and no waiting, but there is also no way to be faster than the track.

Can I close the tab while it exports?

No, and do not switch away from it either. Browsers slow down drawing in hidden tabs, which shows up as dropped frames in the finished video.

I asked for MP4 and got WebM. Why?

The conversion step could not run in your browser. The WebM file is still valid and uploads to YouTube without problems. For Instagram or TikTok, which need MP4, try a different browser.

Will YouTube accept a WebM file?

Yes. YouTube accepts WebM. Instagram, TikTok and Facebook do not, which is why MP4 is the default here.

The video stutters. What now?

Lower the resolution, drop from 60 to 30 fps, reduce the particle count, and close other tabs. Recording competes with everything else running on your machine.

Can I export a section instead of the whole track?

Not yet. Trim the audio before loading it if you only need a clip.

Can I make a video without any text?

Yes. Clear the title and artist fields and nothing is drawn.

Templates and settings

Nothing moves in the preview.

Check that the track is playing and that your system audio is not muted. The visuals follow the actual audio output.

The visuals move constantly and nothing stands out.

That is a heavily compressed master. Lower Sensitivity until the peaks read again.

Beat-triggered templates do not react.

Beat detection follows low-frequency energy. On tracks without a defined kick there is little to detect. Try a template driven by the spectrum instead.

My cover art looks cropped.

Non-square images are cropped to a square from the centre. Export a square version of your artwork.

Can I use my own font or logo?

Not currently. You can put a logo into a background image as a workaround.

Accounts and billing

What does a paid plan change?

Higher export resolutions, the Pro templates, no watermark, and higher frame rates. The exact list is on the pricing page.

Can I use PulSound videos commercially?

Yes. Videos you export are yours to publish, monetise and distribute, including on monetised YouTube channels.

Is the watermark on paid plans?

No. Paid exports are clean.

How do I change my password?

Ask us from the address on your account and we will help. Self-service password reset is on the way.

How do I delete my account?

Write to us and we will remove the account and everything stored with it.

Release pages

What is a release page?

A page at pulsound.com/your-name/track-title with your artwork, a player and links through to Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. One link to share instead of several.

Can I see how many people visited it?

Page views are shown in your dashboard next to each release.

Can I have my own domain?

Not yet.

Other

Which languages is PulSound available in?

English, with more being added. If a language is available it appears in the switcher in the header.

I found a bug or want a template that does not exist.

Tell us. Requests for specific looks are the main reason new templates get built.
