How to make a music visualizer video for free (no software to install)
A step-by-step guide to turning a song into an audio-reactive video in your browser — from choosing a look to exporting for YouTube and Shorts.
A music visualizer is a video where the visuals move with the sound: bars that jump with the kick, particles that burst on the drop, a cover that pulses with the bass. It's the quickest way to give a release something to watch on YouTube, and it works just as well as a short teaser. Here's how to make one for free in about two minutes.
What you need
- Your track as MP3, WAV, FLAC or M4A.
- Optionally, your cover art (a square image) and a background photo.
- A current browser — Chrome or Edge give the fastest export.
There is nothing to install and no account to create. In PulSound the song is processed on your own computer and never uploaded.
Step 1: pick a look
Open the studio. On the left are 80+ templates, each previewing live. If you don't know where to start, use a mood or genre preset in Start here — it picks a template and tunes colours, font and effects for, say, Techno, Lo-Fi or a Dreamy mood. You can also browse finished looks in the examples gallery and open any of them with one click.
Step 2: add your track and artwork
Drop the audio file into the studio. Add your cover in Images if the template shows artwork in the centre, and a background photo if you like. Your own logo can go on the video too.
Step 3: make it yours
- Colours: take the accent colour from your cover art — it instantly makes the video look designed.
- Text: add the track title and artist name, choose a font and where it sits.
- Glow & Drop FX: add bloom and make kicks and drops hit harder with beat zoom, camera shake and flashes.
- Sensitivity: lower it for loud, compressed masters where everything moves at once.
Press Preview at any time to watch it with your music.
Step 4: choose format and length
Pick 16:9 for YouTube or 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels. For a teaser, set Video length to Best 30 s — auto. 1080p at 30 fps suits every platform.
Step 5: export
Press Export video. In current Chrome and Edge the video is rendered faster than real time; you get an MP4 ready to upload. Need every format? Export 3 formats makes 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 at once.
